DEET Can Be Dangerous

Category: Outdoors
Problem:
DEET, the active ingredient in many insect repellent sprays, can cause irritation of the skin and mucus membranes, blisters, scarring, burning, and numbness. There is evidence that DEET can cause neurological problems. Children exposed to DEET can suffer from many symptoms, even seizures and death.
Solution:
Never expose children to DEET! Use a natural insect repellent. Many effective alternatives to DEET are now available. Oil of eucalyptus and catnip are also effective mosquito deterrents.
